Moyie Lake, B.C. June 6, 1978
stopped for a coffee
'hello there!'
a blue pick-up truck with woodland-bob inside
we’re going to Coffee Creek
you wanna come?
hey thanks, I'll have a day-full
with cream and sugar
sounds like fun
rub a dub dub, three men in a tub
riding on logs in a pollen filled bay
smiling, laughing
I could do this
could I do this?
my inner voice sounds a warning:
it’s too beautiful, too easy
I choose to ignore it for now
for now, I'll have some more
later of course the ‘voice of reason’
(who is that?)
Invades – and pops – my little bubble
so after another fruit smoothie
we say another good-bye
and then alone again – but not lonely
(I have ‘the voice’ to keep me company)
I venture into a new valley
In the warm glow of evening sun
turn
a long narrow lake fills a slice between mountains
road and lake lined with tall coniferous trees
a darker valley and much more rural
so quiet here
a few barns, a summer home or two
so quiet
and so so beautiful
turn
red-barked tree against a water-mountain backdrop
turn
B.C. mountain snow peaks so postcard perfect I cannot resist
just a quick snap and off again but … where are my glasses?
last seen on top of the car
u-turn
re-turn
a pair of eyes in the middle of the road, straddling the white line
'hello! fancy meeting you here!'
and off again
turn
an old barn with a green and orange roof
too beautiful not to take a photo
snap, but then…
oh no! not again!
u-turn
re-turn
eyes on the side of the road this time
peeking out from behind long grasses
they look at me reproachfully – how could you do it…?
TWICE!
although I do my best to resist the urge to stop again
my resolve is broken by a beautiful sunset
a glorious sunset that makes me happy just to be alive
and here and now
in this place in this time
in my tent at the end of the day
my candle burns just bright enough to light my page
I hear crickets singing
the distant sound of water

Picture perfect- beautiful!
