Prince Edward Island September 23-24, 1978

A short drive across the Confederation Bridge to PEI

For a lovely time-out-of-mind meander

In the land of Anne of Green Gables

A land so soft, gentle

So quiet and peaceful

It feels almost surreal

I drove it in its entirety

In less than two days

Stopping frequently to admire pastoral views

Have lingering lunches

And, of course, snap photos.

I camped in the beautiful, and now very quiet, PEI National Park

One of those wonderful natural treasures

Our government is protecting and preserving

and providing access for all

To a timeless, priceless heritage.

I thought, as I sat by the water's edge and watched the sunset that night

How proud I am of my country - for many things,

But especially for creating all of these parks.

I feel so very fortunate – to be Canadian,

And able to enjoy them.
